Sight [Sungyeol]

[Honestly…I have no idea what I was doing on this one.]

—————————————————————————————

You weren’t sure what to do in all the noise. There were certain sounds that made you want to turn and look but you knew that you’d lose your place. And once you were disoriented, that was it. The end.

Across the room a pair of eyes watched you. He noticed that you hadn’t moved a step since the mass of people came in. People were glaring at you as they weaved around you but you didn’t seem to notice.

He grinned. It seemed like an awesome prank.

Someone rushing past you nudged your shoulder and you swiveled. But that turn had you bumping into another person rather harshly and you fell to the floor.

Sungyeol wasn’t sure what to do. He waited for you to stand back up but when you didn’t he rushed through the crowd to you.

“Are you okay?” he asked. He grabbed your elbow and helped you stand up.

“Sorry.” you stuttered, “Thank you so much.”

“Why didn’t you stand back up?” he asked.

“Do you see my bag?” you said without answering his question.

“Eh?” he glanced around. There was a black bag on the ground. He picked it up. He wondered why you didn’t just pick it back up.

When he held it out to you, it finally hit him.

You couldn’t see it.

—————————————————————————————

You couldn’t help but feel overjoyed as the male who helped you up escorted you out of the room. As soon as you felt sunlight on your face and the breeze in your hair, relief washed over you.

“Thank you so much.” you sighed, “I didn’t know what I was going to do.”

You heard him chuckled and you turned in his direction, “You did look a little panicked. I thought you were pulling a prank on all of those people.”

You giggled, “I don’t think I’m bold enough to pull pranks on people.”

He laughed, “I think you could.”

“How can you know what I’m like?” you teased him.

“Mm?” he thought about it, “I don’t know.”

You broke out into a fit of giggles, “You’re so funny.”

He grinned, he didn’t mean to be. He was just comfortable with you. It was coming out naturally.

“Oh!” you suddenly exclaimed. Sungyeol’s eyes went wide.

“What?” he wasn’t sure what was going on.

You smiled in his direction and introduced yourself.

He chuckled and gave you his name as well.

“Wait! Wait!” you shouted, “This is your party! What are you doing outside with me? Go back in!”

He moaned, “I don’t want to go back. It’s boring in there. Everyone talks to me only because they feel obligated to. The only time I wasn’t bored was when I thought you were pulling a prank and I was watching you.”

He paused, “Is it hard?”

“Hm? Is what hard?” you asked. Your face was still facing forward.

He stared at your profile, “Not being able to see?”

You smiled, “You could tell?”

“Well, yeah.” he mumbled, “I held out your bag to you and you didn’t make a move to take it.”

You laughed, “True. But maybe I just didn’t want to grab it.”

He stared down at the bag still in his hands, “True.”

“You’re right though.” you said quietly, “I can’t see. Some days are hard but other days aren’t bad.”

“Sounds like a normal day.” he commented.

“It is a normal day.” you repeated, “I’m just like anyone else. The only difference is that I can’t see. But I still have to go through daily life. I can’t just huddle away from the world and expect to be okay.”

He frowned, “Don’t you wish you could hide some days?”

“Of course.” you laughed, “Everyone feels that way. It’s just… I’m not going to hate the world because I can’t see. It doesn’t make sense to be angry with life. I just need to adapt and move forward.”

He flipped your bag around in his hands, “I wish I was more like that.”

You finally turned your head in Sungyeol’s direction, “Then change.”

A shocked look crossed his face, “You make it sound like it’s easy!”

“It is.” you stated, “You just need to change your mind set.”

“How do I do that?” he asked you.

“Go back to your party and try and enjoy it. That would be a good start.” you smiled.

“Are you going back in?” he wondered.

“Oh dear. No.” you shook your head, “I really don’t want to have to push myself into that crowd.”

He flipped your bag over some more, “I’ll go back in.”

You grinned, “Great job. You just took a step forward.”

He smiled back even though he knew that you couldn’t see it.

“I’m going to get going.” you said, “Would you mind handing me my bag now?”

He flipped your bag over once more, “Yeah.”

He placed the bag carefully in your hands, “Thanks.”

His hands didn’t release yours, “Would it be okay to meet again after this?”

“After your party?” your brain had to think about the time, “When it finishes won’t it be really late?”

“No, no.” he stammered, “Like, just…meet up again?”

You thought about it for a second, “I don’t see why not.”

He felt a grin stretching across his face, “Then tomorrow! Can you meet me here and we’ll go for coffee?”

“That sounds good.” you smiled at him, “I like coffee.”

“Me too!” he laughed, “Then tomorrow?”

“Tomorrow.” you replied.
